Environmental,
Social & Governance

Our approach to sustainability — across environmental, social, and governance areas — is an ongoing journey. Guided by responsibility and collaboration, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made — and open about the learning, reflection, and action still to come.

Our responsibility

We’ve always believed that packaging can be part of the solution — not just the problem. That belief has shaped how we design, source, and manufacture our products. It’s also shaped how we treat people, how we make decisions, and how we think about the future.

Our approach to responsibility is grounded in three ideas:

  • That reducing harm is essential — but it’s only the starting point
  • That our work can create meaningful benefits for people, communities, and ecosystems
  • That progress depends on collaboration — with our team, our partners, and our industry

These ideas aren’t new to us. But they’re becoming more intentional, more structured, and more visible in how we work.

Environment
We’re on a continual journey to reduce environmental impact — improving materials, exploring ways to measure carbon footprint, and designing with care, supported by ISO 14001 and a growing understanding of what better can look like.

Social
We’re shaping a workplace where people thrive — building on a culture of openness, guided by shared values, and supported by policies and accreditation that reflect care, fairness, and future thinking.

Governance
We’re strengthening how we work — through clear systems, shared values, and trusted frameworks like ISO 9001 and Sedex — while continuing to reflect, refine, and evolve our ESG approach.
We're accredited

We see accreditations as part of how we stay accountable — not just to standards, but to the people who rely on us.

  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management
  • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
  • Investors in People (Gold) – Workforce Development
  • Sedex Member – Ethical Supply Chain Transparency (Ref: ZC40328889)

Each one reflects a commitment we’ve made — and continue to build on.

Biodiversity

Sometimes, sustainability starts small. Outside our Glasgow office, we’ve installed bird and bug boxes to support local species — a quiet reminder that even modest actions can contribute to a healthier ecosystem. In our packaging development, we have considered a range of materials, including Prevented Ocean Plastic, which helps to reduce waste that would otherwise threaten marine life.

Donations to Ocean Generations
We support Ocean Generation, a charity tackling plastic pollution through science, education, and storytelling. Our donations — including customer-driven campaigns — help fund their work protecting marine ecosystems and shifting behaviours that threaten ocean health.

LED Lighting
We’ve transitioned to LED lighting across our facilities to reduce energy use. LEDs are significantly more efficient than traditional lighting — using up to 80% less electricity — and form a simple but effective part of our wider approach to energy-conscious operations.

Heat Recovery Units
To reduce energy consumption, we’ve installed multiple heat recovery units across our premises. These systems recapture and reuse warm air, improving heating efficiency and saving up to 30% of the energy typically required to maintain indoor temperatures.

Renewable Electricity Sources
Our head office is powered primarily by solar panels installed along the full length of the building — and on sunny days, we even return electricity to the grid. Additionally, 75% of our back-up electricity supply comes from certified renewable sources.

Car Charging Points
We’ve installed four electric vehicle charging points to support lower-emission commuting for our team. Inside the business, our forklift trucks are fully electric — powered by electricity that’s 75% sourced from renewables — helping reduce operational emissions as well as those on the road.

Packaging & Recycling
We recycle all waste cardboard through Highlander Recycling, where it’s processed into new cardboard products. To reduce plastic use, we also use biodegradable poly chips — helping ensure our packaging choices are both protective and more environmentally responsible.
